My parents are Christians. They raised me and my two older siblings in the fear of the Lord and taught us God’s Word. Church was always a vital part of family life. My dad was a senior pastor and served five local churches in Ohio, Minnesota, Montana and South Dakota over the course of almost 40 years. He faithfully preached the Bible Sunday after Sunday. So, I heard the gospel often and when I was very young I responded in faith to the Spirit’s gracious calling to lay down my life and follow Lord Jesus.
Outside of church activities, I don’t recall reading the Bible on my own during my youth. The summer before I would head off to Dakota State University my brother intentionally invested in me spiritually. We read the Bible together and prayed together. He challenged me to read God’s Word daily and gave me some guidance on how I might do that. At college, for the first time in my life, I felt a freedom to choose God, faith, and church attendance, or to choose another path. God was kind and drew me to Himself. He gave me Christian friends that encouraged me, older Christian men that discipled me, and eventually a church home at West Center that equipped me. I began to regularly read the Bible on my own, it came alive to me, and I actually desired to read it. Slowly and providentially the Spirit worked in my life a love for God, his Word, prayer, and his church. At the same time He was working in me a hatred for the sin in my life. I began to meet one-on-one with brothers in Christ for prayer, discipleship, encouragement, and Scripture memorization. I experienced victory over the habitual sins. After being baptized at Lake Herman, I joined in membership the saints of West Center. God has allowed me to serve the church in many capacities including youth ministry, children’s ministry, technology ministries, the missions team, and now as an elder. It is my desire to be used by Him as He sees fit for the glory of His name and the benefit of His Church.
I've been working professionally in software development since 2000. I've been married to my best friend Holly since 2009 and we are blessed with three children: Abe, Joanna and Maris.
Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. (Jude 24-25 ESV)
